Eight horses that were being rented at an access walkway to the beaches of Punta Cerritos and Playa Bruja in north Mazatlán were seized yesterday by municipal police who also detained the presumed owner of the horses.

Municipal police detained the man, Jesús Burgos, 53 years old, where the horses were saddled and ready to be rented, the agents commented.

The operation by municipal police took place around noon yesterday one day after it was reported two juveniles were knocked down by a horse in the access walkway to the beach beside hotel Riu in Cerritos.

It was later confirmed that it was just one young girl who was injured by a horse. Her family took her by car to a clinic for medical attention.

The seizure of the horses and detention of the owner were the result of an official notice from the Comité de Playas Limpias de Mazatlán (Clean Beaches Committee) which states that persons throwing garbage or contaminants on the beach, introducing horses or riding motorized vehicles on beaches will be detained.

Municipal agents commented the notice aims to promote clean beach areas and prevent contamination.
