An enormous iron sculpture of The Phoenix, symbol of immortality and resurrection, was erected yesterday at what will be the entrance to the street party area in Olas Altas for Carnaval 2015 which begins next Thursday in Mazatlán.
Created by engineer Jorge Osuna and his team, the sculpture is outlined with LED lights and equipped with sound amplifiers for music. It stands 7.52 meters high with a wing spread of 12.5 meters and weighs 650 kilos.
When lit, the Phoenix will light up the sky using 15,224 watts of electricity.
Revelers attending the street parties will be entertained by bands and musical groups on 11 stages in Olas Altas where, according to Cultura, they can dance and sing under the stars from 9pm to 3am.
Cultura announced in a press release yesterday another innovation to Carnaval shows this year. At the Glorieta Sánchez Taboada (the cliff divers´ plaza), an evening light show will illuminate the ocean waves accompanied by live music and performances in rhythm with the light show.
