During 2015 the efforts of the Municipality of Mazatlán will be geared to two main projects: an aqueduct from the Picachos Dam and reparation of collapsed drain pipes.
Mayor Carlos Felton González promised publicly yesterday that he will look for financial resources to make the two projects most demanded by the public a reality.
Speaking to reporters, he said the objective is to begin construction of the aqueduct in 2015 and complete it in 2016, which will require 570 million pesos. The municipality needs the participation of the Federal government as the municipality and the State alone cannot pay for the project, he added.
The second objective is to repair as many collapsed drain pipes as possible. Last year, said Felton, the water problem in Mazatlán was the biggest complaint from citizens, professional colleges and businesses.
On a separate matter, Felton pointed out that in the next few weeks the first of 46,000 Nissan vehicles will arrive in port to be distributed in Mexico and internationally. “One hundred percent of vehicles that (previously) went through the port of Lázaro Cárdenas are now coming to Mazatlán,” he stated.
He also announced a change in how homeowners will receive their property tax bills this year. Instead of owners picking them up at a local kiosk, tax bills will be delivered to their homes. (from Noroeste)
