Built in seven months at a cost of $70 million, the 40,000 sq. meters (430,000 sq. ft.) Plaza Sendero Mazatlán opened yesterday. The shopping center contains 198 shops, including anchor tenants, such as Soriana, Coppell, Cinepolis, and Famsa, as well as parking for 1,600 automobiles.
Plaza Sendero opened with an 80 percent occupancy rate and Jesús Acosta Castellanos, Director of Centros Comerciales Sendero, said 100 percent occupancy should be reached within two months. He noted that the Plaza will generate 2,500 direct jobs.
Governor Mario López Valdez, the Secretary of Economic Development, Aaron Rivas Loaiza, Mayor Carlos Felton, Secretary of Tourism, Francisco Cordova Celaya, and Federal Deputy Martin Heredia Lizarraga were all in attendance at the grand opening.
