The laying of the first stone was celebrated just hours after the municipal council approved the donation of 1.3 hectares of land.
What will be the complete university of health in southern Sinaloa began yesterday in Fraccionamiento Pradera Dorada where the Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa (UAS) will build a Faculty of Medicine with the first stage of the project costing 20 million pesos of the 360 million expected for the entire project.
The laying of the first stone was celebrated just hours after the municipal council approved the donation of 1.3 hectares of land even though the bid for the project had already been won months ago by a Culiacán construction company.
At the ceremony were UAS Rector Juan Eulogio Guerra Liera, Mazatlán Mayor Carlos Felton, council members and university authorities.
During the ceremony, the Rector advised that the first stage encompasses 10 lecture rooms, a laboratory, four bathrooms, an amphitheater, teachers´ room, computer lab and administration offices.
Upon completion, the faculty of medicine will be comprised of three buildings housing the disciplines of dentistry, medicine, chemistry, nutrition, psychology and physical education.
In his remarks at the opening ceremony, Rector Guerra Liera thanked not only the municipality for donating the land but also the residents where the faculty will be built who, on being asked if they had any objections to the campus being built in their community, said they approved of the project.
