Pangas Return to Stone Island

Last Friday Gustavo Gómez Rangel, Captain of the Port of Mazatlán, stopped the pangas carrying people and goods to Stone Island from the embarkation center on Avenida Emilio Barragan. The pangas were stopped because the owners of the 12 pangas plying the waters to Stone Island had failed to renew their permits.
Gustavo Gómez Rangel said that the pangas owners had been given an extension to pay their permits, which were due last March, in order not to interrupt the transportation of people and goods when they agreed to provide the necessary documentation as soon as possible. The documentation was never forthcoming.
Gómez Rangel also noted during the month of July one of the pangas was involved in an accident and it was not reported to his office, as is required. The accident was discovered by the port authorities along with the fact the panga owner did not have insurance for the accident, which is a mandatory requirement.
The panga owners have renewed their permits and transportation of Stone Island has resumed.
