Carlos Berdegué Sacristán, Vice President of the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies in Mazatlán, told reporters that American Airlines will increase the number of passenger seats for Mazatlán by 100 percent for the 2014-2015 winter season.
He said the airline will increase their seats beginning in late November, which will increase the total number of passenger seats for Mazatlán by 40 percent for the season.
Carlos Berdegué said, “We are very pleased with this announcement by American Airlines because it means that the passenger demand for Mazatlán is increasing and this will encourage other airlines with whom we are negotiating to maintain their confidence in this destination.”
He added, “These results are due to a re-launch of Mazatlán’s image internationally, through campaigns and international tours to Canada and the United States, which has resulted in greater interest in carriers such as Delta, Sun Country,  US Airways and many other airlines, which is good news, because there will be more tourists from the United States and Canada.”
Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, Francisco Córdova Celaya, said that during the 2013-2014 winter season Mazatlán had 4,685 airline passenger seats per week from the United States and Canada distributed among 34 flights. For this upcoming season it is projected that the city will see a growth of 44 percent in carrier frequency and 40 percent in passenger seats.
