Lineups Continue for Free School Supplies and Uniforms

Although school began in Sinaloa a week ago, parents of Mazatlán students continue to lineup at stores participating in the State government´s free uniform and supplies program.
In El Centro, media reported at some stores at least 100 people formed lines in front of uniform and stationery stores, causing chaos for both those in line and the store employees.
And despite the government’s assistance, some parents have complained that vouchers for school supplies are insufficient for the schools’ demands. Parents reported pre-schools require 300 pesos per child for supplies and 600 pesos for primary schools.
Uniform shops and stationery stores not participating in the government voucher program reported few sales, stating lack of money on behalf of parents and strong competition as the reasons.
