Mazatlán to get New Hospital

Last week the governor of the state of Sinaloa, Mario López Valdez, announced that the state’s Congress had approved 2.3 billion pesos ($175 million) for the construction of two new hospitals in the state. The Governor said that a new 150 bed hospital would be built in Culiacán and a 120 bed hospital in Mazatlán. The two new hospitals will be built by private investors under a public-private partnership.
Mario López said the new hospitals would further increase the quality of health care available in Sinaloa, which he added is excellent. He noted that Sinaloa is one of the leading states in the country in reducing infant mortality rates, that the vaccination rate in the state is almost 100 percent, that 99 percent of the state’s hospitals are accredited, and that more organ transplant surgeries occur in Sinaloa than most of the other states in México.
Over the weekend Ernesto Echeverría Aispuro, Minister of Health for Sinaloa, stated that the land for the Mazatlán hospital had been acquired. The hospital land is located at the Luis Donaldo Colosio bypass where the annual livestock Fair is held.
The Minster of Health said the new hospital will be name after Dr. Martiniano Carvajal.
