Mazatlan Blood Bank Celebrates World Blood Donor Day

Alejandro Nájera Luengo, Director of the Centro Estatal de Transfusión Sanguínea beside the General Hospital in Mazatlán, said they estímate that at least 40 percent of patients entering hospital will require a blood transfusión. Most of those donating do so voluntarily.
In recognition of World Blood Donor Day on June 14, he asks Mazatlecans to consider donating their blood to the bank. The requisites for donating are:
  • be 18 to 65 years old
  • weigh at least 50 kilos
  • no alcohol in the previous 72 hours
  • not ill with HIV, leprosy, diabetes, TB, pneumonia or STD
  • tattoos must be over a year old
The blood bank is open daily from 7am to 8:30am, telephone 984-0262.
