Dept. of Education Cancels Outdoor School Activities

The extreme heat Mazatlán has been suffering for the past month has prompted the department of education to cancel all outdoor activities for local schools, including graduation ceremonies in primary schools and the weekly Lunes Cívicos had by Mayor Carlos Felton every Monday in schools throughout the municipality.
The death of a young person from heat stroke on Saturday and the heat exhaustion suffered by students attending last week´s Lunes Cívicos meeting in the blistering sun of a local school courtyard were the reasons cited for the cancellation by SEPyC regional manager Toribio Colado Rodríguez.
Media reported that the National Meteorological Service predicts temperatures in Mazatlán will reach highs of 37ºC today and tomorrow and warns of extreme ultraviolet rays during mid-day. (from Noroeste)
