A New Way to Donate to Hospice Mazatlán

Lois Croly, the founder of Hospice Mazatlán, announced that the local charity has been approved by Amazon.com, the largest online retailer in the world, for its Amazon Smile program.
The new program began this month by the online giant. Under the program shoppers at the online marketplace can now name Friends of Hospice Mazatlán, the U.S. 501(c) (3) tax exempt arm of the local charity, located in Lake Tapps, Washington, to receive a portion of the money they spend at Amazon.com. Other U.S. charities are also participating in the new program
If an online shopper designates Friend of Hospice Mazatlán as his or her charity of choice, then 0.5 percent of all future purchases made by the shopper at Amazon will be donated to the Mazatlán charity. To designate a charity to benefit from their shopping a person must log onto smile.amazon.com instead of the amazon.com website.
Once at the website the shopper will be asked to choose which charity the shopper wants to support. Once the selection is made, that’s all there is to it. To ensure Hospice Mazatlán gets a donation from his or her expenditures, the online shopper needs to make future Amazon purchases through the smile.amazon.com website.
Adriana Carrillo, Director of Operations for Hospice Mazatlán, said she hopes this new program will develop into a source of income for the organization, which is desperately needed for its continued operation. She noted that during May of this year the local charity made 309 visits to the patents in its palliative care program, up over 20% from their January visits.
