Mazatlán has become in vogue, said Guillermo Romero Rodríguez of Fecanaco.
The Federación de Cámaras Nacionales de Comercio, Servicios y Turismo de Sinaloa (Fecanaco) is expecting to report a financial boon of 145 million pesos and the reactivation of all tourism and business sectors in Mazatlán following the long weekend holiday which began on Thursday and ends today.
President of Fecanaco, Guillermo Romero Rodríguez, said that since Thursday and up until yesterday hotel occupation was at its highest, restaurants saw a 70 percent increase in income, gas stations a 60 percent increase, boutiques and department stores 50 percent and shoe stores a 60 percent increase in sales.
Mazatlán has become in vogue, he said. Part of the reason for the upswing in visitors was the holiday in conjunction with various conferences in the city such as the Nikkei convention and the Taekwondo tournament, in addition to weddings and celebrations.
Romero Rodríguez advised that some hotels were overbooked and sending tourists to other accommodation, including those on the highway, but expects occupation rates to fall back to 50 or 60 percent beginning today.
The opening of the Mazatlán-Durango highway has benefited the city considerably over the past four weekends with hotel occupancy at a minimum of 70 percent and they are now preparing for the May 15th long weekend, the President said.
