Construction of Plaza Sendero Restarts

The Plaza Sendero was initially scheduled to be completed and open on November 4.
After a delay of 45 days and the payment of an 800,000 pesos fine, the construction of Plaza Sendero restarted yesterday. Mazatlán’s mayor, Carlos Felton, the Secretary of Tourism and the Secretary of Economic Development were all at the construction site to verify the restart of construction.
The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) stopped construction last month when it was discovered that an environmental impact study for the project had not been done.
Shortly after Profepa closed the site, Sinaloa Governor Mario López Valdez and Mazatlán Mayor Carlos Felton approached the Profepa subdelegate, Maribel Chollet Morán, to allow the project to continue in the face of losing the 70 million dollar shopping center investment.
The Plaza Sendero was initially scheduled to be completed and open on November 4. Enrique González Guereña, director of the project, said a lot of time has been lost, but they have not changed the completion date.
