National tuna cannery becomes worldwide leader

With the tuna canning plant belonging to the group Pescados Industrializados SA (PINSA), located in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico has one of the largest companies of its kind and one of the most modern ones in the world.

This factory produces two million cans daily in 13 production lines. It has refrigerators that are available for raw material storage with capacity for 21,000 tonnes and finished product storing facilities.

PINSA generats more than 3,700 direct jobs and is the most important source of employment in the town of Mazatlan.

The head of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), Enrique Martinez y Martinez; and the head of the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA), Mario Aguilar Sánchez, toured the facilities of the tuna processing plant after having been invited by the fishing industry leader, Jose Eleovigildo Carranza.

The entrepreneur explained them how tuna processing and canning processes are performed, from thawing it to labelling various commercial brands that distribute the products in the local and international markets.
Besides, he stressed that the canning firm strictly meets the official Mexican and global standards.

Carranza also recalled that the company has the patent registration of Dolores Brand in the US, which represents that brand of canned tuna in Mazatlan.

On the other hand, he pointed out Pesca Azteca, one of the subsidiaries of PINSA, has the largest fleet in the Eastern Pacific Ocean (EPO) to catch yellowfin tuna, with operations based in Mazatlan.
