Garbage containers will line the beaches of Mazatlán during Semana Santa holidays of April 13-20 with the objective of avoiding contamination of the shoreline and ocean, said Julio Guerra Escheagaray, director of municipal public services.
As of yesterday, workers began installing 50 new green refuse containers on the beach from Valentino’s to Playa Norte and 150 on the Malecón.
The director estimates during the holidays the municipality will generate 100 tons of garbage per day, 18 percent more in tourist areas.
