High Probability Traffic Directions will Change during Semana Santa

The weekend trial run was successful in terms of regulating traffic flow, the Mayor said.
Although requiring some “corrections,” the proposal to change traffic flow from the Zona Dorada to the Marina Wednesday through Sunday of Semana Santa has a high probability of becoming a reality, said Mazatlán Official Mayor Salvador Reynosa Garzón following a closed door meeting with representatives of local business groups.
During the meeting, business representatives unanimously agreed the change is necessary to avoid traffic chaos in the Golden Zone, but proposed a reduction of one-way direction to actually begin at Valentino´s and finish at the north end of Av. Camarón Sábalo where it meets Paseo del Atlántico.
Included in the “corrections” suggested by the business council were better signs indicating directions and more publicity.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Mayor Carlos Felton said that considering the criticism and complaints from citizens following the trial traffic pattern change last weekend, they are considering alternative routes including passage through the gated community of El Cid and the Marina Golf Course by the Convention Center. Opening the Marina golf course community roads would allow drivers and emergency vehicles access to Cerritos without doing a complete circuit. The municipality is in discussion with representatives of both communities.
The weekend trial run of a one-way circuit from the Zona Dorada to Av. La Marina was successful in terms of regulating traffic flow. However, said Felton, it generated many complaints from residents, businesses and public transport drivers about the distance drivers had to cover to get to the tourist zone.
