Aiming to be on the cutting edge of technology, Mazatlán has become the first city in Sinaloa to provide digital tours allowing both locals and tourists alike to learn more about a particular monument or building or history of the city with just the scan of a QR code affixed to the monuments and buildings via an application on a smart phone device.
Mazatlán mayor, Carlos Felton, led the opening ceremony of the digital tour, which was held at the Plazuela Machado. Salvador Sánchez Enciso, Municipal Director of Computing, who was in charge of the project, explained to those in attendance how people can access this information.
He noted that so far they have installed the QR codes at 20 different locations, but plan on having a total of 32.
Salvador Sánchez said, “These QR codes contain information that will lead to a website that will contain information about the monument or building that can be displayed on a person’s smartphone.”
Currently locations that have the QR codes are: Plazuela Machado, Teatro Angela Peralta, Municipal Arts Centre, Cathedral Basilica, Haas House, Casa del Marino, Clubhouse Wall , Old Customs, Military Hospital, Pitches: Republic, Hidalgo, Angel Flores, Carranza and Zaragoza; Museum of Art, Memorial Shield, El Venado, a statue of Pedro Infante, the diver, Monument to the Fisherman and Pneumonia.
