Two Cruise Ships Call on Mazatlán Today

The days in which two cruise ships are docked in Mazatlán have been few and far between. Maybe that is beginning to change. Today we have both the cruise ship MS Veendam with the cruise line Holland America and the cruise ship Norwegian Star with Norwegian Cruise Lines tied to our docks.

The Veendam has a capacity of 1,350 passengers and a crew of 580, while that of the Norwegian Star is 2,348 passengers and a crew of 1,038.

Francisco Córdova Celaya, Secretary of Tourism for the state of Sinaloa, said Mazatlán will again see two ships at its docks on the same day on March 19 and 26.

Attending the Cruise Ship Miami conference in Miami, Francisco Córdova Celaya said that Princess Cruise lines announced that it would be returning to Mazatlán with 60 cruise ship arrivals during the 2014-2015 season.

A statement released by the Secretary’s office, said, “After holding several meetings with executives of the largest cruise lines in the world, who are meeting at the Miami Beach Convention Center, we can confirm that the Norwegian and Holland America lines, which already have made calls on the port, will increase their frequencies to this destination.”

Córdova Celaya said that between the 60 already confirmed arrivals between Princess, Holland America and Norwegian, Mazatlán will receive a total of 101,000 tourists and 48,000 crewmen during the 2014-2015 season.
