President Enrique Peña Nieto promised that plans for a national
healthcare system, which he said will guarantee Mexicans access to
efficient healthcare services, will be finalized in 2014.
Peña Nieto’s comments were made during an inauguration ceremony for
new hospitals in the Acatlán de Osorio and Teziutlán municipalities of
Puebla. In October last year, he had announced preliminary plans to
implement a national healthcare system.
According to Peña Nieto, the federal government has a set path to
build on the reforms passed during the first 12 months of his
administration, adding that this year will allow “these reforms, which
should provide benefits for all Mexicans, to gradually be implemented.”
During his second year in office, Peña Nieto said that his
administration will redouble its efforts on pending political issues,
especially the modernization of the legislative framework, which he said
“will allow the institutions of the Mexican state to become more
efficient and deliver better results for Mexicans.”
He said that 2014 should be a good year for Mexico, saying that the
economy should finally take off. creating more jobs and providing better
opportunities for the country’s citizens.
Peña Nieto went on to thank the country’s political parties for the
current climate of civility in Mexico, which he said “has made it
possible for us to solidify important reforms during 2013,” especially
thanking Puebla Gov. Rafael Moreno Valle Rosas of the opposition
National Action Party (PAN).
