Alfonso Gil Diaz, Director of Mazatlán’s Port Authority (API), said that 2014 is expected to be a good year for Mazatlán’s port.

He said the API is expecting large volumes of steel exports, which will result in good employment numbers.
Alfonso Gil said that although an exact date has not been set, the import of automobiles should restart this year. The main importer of automobiles will be Chrysler. He noted that a yard to park the offloaded automobiles has already been created.

With respect to cruise ships, the Director said that although not as many as in years past, cruise ships are also adding to the port’s activity. Twenty-two cruise ship arrivals are planned so far for 2014.
