Municipal Road Modernization Plan Presented

modernization

A 30-year plan to update and improve traffic avenues in the municipality of Mazatlán was presented yesterday by the Technical Committee of the College of Civil Engineers of Mazatlán.  The plan includes the construction of 29 new works, including overpasses of congested arteries, widening of main urban and feeder routes, and construction of train depots.

Committee member Luis Rey López Balderas explained the plan will require co-ordination of Federal, State and Municipal authorities, further citizen input and is a 30-year project in development that could cost close to 5,000 million pesos.

For its part, the Municipal Planning Institute has suggested with respect to inner city projects developing green and recreational areas, establishing tourist and commercial corridors and reconfiguring urban streets to define urban sub-centers with infrastructure, equipment and land use (regulations).

Commenting on the modernization plan, State Secretary of Tourism Francisco Córdova Celaya said before thinking of executing the plan, there must be consultation with citizens living in the zones where construction would take place.

As well, he suggested beginning with the simple things. For example, with elementary works that would improve the city´s image—repair building façades, paint buildings—work that does not take millions of pesos but will improve the appearance of the city substantially.
