Mazatlán By-Pass Road to be Ready in May, 2014

The 31 kilometer, four-lane road will allow vehicles to travel from south to north in 12 minutes.

Construction of the Libramiento Mazatlán by-pass highway from Villa Unión to kilometer 3.5 of the Mazatlán-Culiacán autopista has advanced 56 percent and is expected to be open to traffic in May, 2014.

The 31 kilometer, four-lane connector road will allow vehicles to travel from south to north in 12 minutes.

Mazatlán Mayor Alejandro Higuera and Sinaloa federal transport representative Lucas Aguilar Medina visited the construction site yesterday.

Higuera told media that one and a half years after beginning the project, the by-pass road is one hundred percent constructed, with 16 kilometers already paved. There remains one kilometer at El Armadillo where they are awaiting permits from Semarnat to continue.

At the north end of the highway where the connector meets the autopista, plans are to extend a feeder road to the tourist zone via Avenida Pacífico. However, said Higuera, that road has yet to be built.

The feeder road was not contemplated in the overall project, said Higuera, but it is important and he will meet with State officials and representatives of the construction company Ideal to present the idea.

There will be five junctions feeding into the bypass road at Villa Unión, Mazatlán 2, Vainillo, Culiacán quota highway and Culiacán free highway.
